Spring clean
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 9/1/2006
The month of September always signify the beginning of spring to me. We use to have a Spring day at school where we'll bring flowers and get to dress up in pink (if you're a girl). Nowadays we often hear people talking about 'spring cleaning' their houses. It reminds me of a desire to open up and start afresh. We're also moving into the second half of the year and need to assess our aims (goals, objectives) set out at the beginning to see where we are and where to go.

My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/31/2006

Mommy Annelize
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/26/2006
My dear friend Annelize (in Canada) was due to have her baby this week. I'm somewhat envious, but wish her well. As soon as I know whether it's a boy or girl, I'll let you all know. I know that she's gonna be a great mom. All the best to her and Gary. She's a very lucky girl to have her mom around for support with new baby. Congratulations to the family.

Today
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/23/2006

I'm nurturing my creative side. I'm busy crocheting a blanket, a very big round one with lots of bright colours. Thomas also bought me a sewing machine last week and I hope to put it to good use. No, I won't be sewing garments and fancy clothes, but I will be fixing small rips and tears, making curtains and an equally colourful quilt. So, what have you done today? Lets start being 'doers' rather than 'planners'.

What's new?
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/22/2006
What's new in your life? Are we still focussed on our goal we set out to achieve for 2006? Do we need a spring cleaning session to get us back on track?

Townsville marathon
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/6/2006

I finish today's marathon in 4hrs 2min. And it's definitely going down in my book as a tough one. One could argue that all marathons are tough, but this one really was. There were times that I was running by myself for kilometres on end and the lack of spectators surely made it worse. Will I do it again? Ask me in a month's time. By then the blister scars would be gone and the tiredness out of my legs. It was nevertheless a great effort by the organisers. The drink tables were well manned and enough for everybody. Today was my 13th marathon and I tribute this one to my mother (who passed away last year and was buried on this day - also her birthday) and my late brother who left us 6 years ago and was also buried on this day. I also made the Townsville Bulletin newspaper this week. Not the best photo ever published of me, but a good article.

What's on your mind?
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 8/2/2006

What go through your mind when you run a marathon? Definitely not something I will prepare to think of beforehand. I'm hoping for a cool breeze, supportive spectators and lots of cold water on the way.  The date, 6 August, has special significance to me. It's the birthday of someone very dear to my heart, but it's also the day that we'd lay two special people in our lives to rest. So, I will have them to think of, 42.2km long.

Update
My Diary By Elderene Claassen on 7/26/2006
It's been two months since our move downunder and we're packing up. We're moving house. Our stay in the hospital accomodation had come to an end and we're moving into our own space. A townhouse close to the beach. It will be a new running terrain to explore and I'm looking forward to it.
